What separates the two isn't necessarily talent. Talent does play a small part, but talent is ambiguous. What one finds painful another can find masterful. What truly separates good from bad is the understanding that not everything that comes out of them is gold. Trust me, no matter how good of a writer you are, rainbows and butterflies aren't going to fly out whenever your pen hits the paper. If you can't grasp this, you're either stupid, arrogant, untalented or all of the above.
